Wordless Wednesday

  1. "Visitations" is a wood block print, limited addition by Suzanne Halstead

This form of printmaking was done with a seasoned wooden board, craving out a line image from the wood grain on one side then rolling with a brayer block printing ink onto the surface; placing paper onto the block and rubbing the surface in such a way to get a textured ethereal look to the image. I then flipped the board over carved out another line image repeated the inking and rubbing process on the same piece of paper so the two images are facing each other.

The interesting surprise element to the piece is the wood block has a knot that that came off and so created a white void on the paper looking like the opening of two vessels the visitors are holding and perhaps 'pour out from'.

This is one of the great joys in making art for me - the unexpected surprises when I am in the flow of the actual art making process. Suzanne
